Mining industry

Until a few years ago, a plant belinging to the Austrian-American Magnesite Corp. was operated above Vorderlanersbach. Magnesite was discovered there in 1912 and brought to the valley in baskets. It was only later that a smelting plant was established at an elevation of over 1670 m, making it the highest foundery operation in Europe. At its heyday, the plant employed around 350 miners. It was shut down in 1976.

Cattle-breeding
For centuries, the Tux Valley was the breeding territory of the Tux cattle, which has now become almost extinct. Because of a re-breeding one sees now the black or brown "Tux cow" again in the Ziller Valley.
It is well-known for its resistance and its modesty.
